The best luxury hotels in St Moritz by outside recognition are the Carlton Hotel, Badrutt’s Palace and the Kulm, the three in town with Three MICHELIN Keys in the guide’s 2026 Swiss selection (MICHELIN Guide, September 2026). The Carlton is also Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star, and Badrutt’s Palace is No. 36 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels list.
If you are comparing the best hotels in St. Moritz, the real choice is between a hilltop grand hotel, a lakeside house of 60 suites, and a quieter address away from the center. Many close between seasons, so the opening dates below come from the hotel pages.
How We Picked
This guide uses three outside yardsticks. The first is the MICHELIN Guide’s 2026 Swiss Key selection, published September 18, 2026, which counts 89 Key hotels in Switzerland, 10 of them with Three Keys, and names seven in St. Moritz and Pontresina. The second is Forbes Travel Guide’s 2026 ratings for St. Moritz. The third is The World’s 50 Best Hotels list on the50.com.
Searches for 5 star hotels in St Moritz return many names, but a star count alone does not tell you which ones inspectors rate highly, so we start from the award lists. We left out hotels with no award record on those pages, which is why Nira Alpina in Silvaplana and several smaller houses are absent. St. Moritz is a small resort, so the best hotels sit within a few minutes of one another, and the gap between them is mostly about season, scale and setting. That is why each pick below states what it is best at. Room counts come from the MICHELIN Guide or Forbes, and opening dates from each hotel’s own site. We take no paid placement.
The Best Luxury Hotels in St. Moritz
Badrutt’s Palace Hotel
Three MICHELIN Keys, Forbes Four-Star, and No. 36 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels list, the only Swiss hotel in that top 50 (the50.com, 2026). MICHELIN gives it 157 rooms at Via Serlas 27 and calls it a castle-like hotel known for après-ski and “wintry European glamour.” Its restaurants include La Coupole, Matsuhisa, and MICHELIN puts it about 5 minutes from Samedan airport. It is the pick for a first visit in winter.
Carlton Hotel St. Moritz
Three MICHELIN Keys and Forbes Five-Star, the only Five-Star in St. Moritz on Forbes’ Alps page (2026). Forbes counts 60 all-suite accommodations from about 484 to 1,722 square feet, in a building from 1913 renovated in 2007, with a three-floor spa and a shuttle to the Corviglia ski station. The restaurant Da Vittorio holds Two MICHELIN Stars, per MICHELIN (December 2025). Forbes lists it open December to March and about a seven-minute walk from the town center.
Kulm Hotel St. Moritz
Three MICHELIN Keys, new in the 2026 selection, which made St. Moritz the Swiss resort with three Three-Key hotels, per the MICHELIN Guide (September 2026). Forbes rates it Four-Star, and MICHELIN lists 150 rooms. Kulm says it marks the place where winter tourism began in 1864. It is open June 12 to August 30, 2026, and December 4, 2026 to March 29, 2027, per its own site. Guests receive a complimentary Ski & Mountain Pass valid for as many days as nights booked, per Kulm. It is the choice for a summer stay and for history.
Suvretta House
Two MICHELIN Keys, per the MICHELIN Guide (2026), with 177 rooms just outside the village. MICHELIN notes a private ski lift for guests, a private ice rink and an indoor pool with mountain views. The hotel opened in 1912, and its winter season 2026/27 runs December 4, 2026 to March 29, 2027, per suvrettahouse.ch. It is the pick for a family-run grand hotel away from the village bustle.
Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina
Two MICHELIN Keys, per the MICHELIN Guide (2026). Kronenhof has 112 rooms and suites, many designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, at Via Maistra 130 in Pontresina, and describes itself as “elegant, by nature since 1848.” It lists its 2026-27 season as June 12, 2026 to April 4, 2027. Choose it if you want the Bernina massif rather than the lake.
Hotel Grace La Margna St. Moritz
One MICHELIN Key, with 74 rooms at Via Serlas 5, about a two-minute walk from the train station, per the MICHELIN Guide (2026). The hotel lists lake-view rooms in two wings, the Art Nouveau La Margna wing and the modern Grace wing, and says it is open every day of the year. That makes it the practical option outside the two main seasons.
Kempinski Grand Hotel Des Bains
One MICHELIN Key, per the MICHELIN Guide (2026), and listed by Forbes as soon to be rated (2026). MICHELIN says it was built around a mineral spring, opened in 1864, has 205 rooms and sits across the street from a gondola station. The hotel’s awards page lists a MICHELIN Star for its restaurant Cà d’Oro, Gault&Millau 17 points for it, and Falstaff Hotel Guide 96 points for the hotel (2025). Pick it for the spa and the Italian restaurants.
Giardino Mountain, Champfèr
Giardino Mountain held One MICHELIN Key in the 2025 Swiss selection (October 2025) and does not appear on the 2026 list. MICHELIN describes it as a hotel in Champfèr, just outside St. Moritz, and its restaurant Ecco St. Moritz holds Two MICHELIN Stars (MICHELIN Guide, December 2025). It is a quieter base for diners, a few minutes from the village.

Verdict: for the strongest case on both lists, choose the Carlton. For the larger grand hotel, choose Badrutt’s Palace. For summer, Kulm, Grace La Margna and Kronenhof are open when others are not.

Hotels follow that split. Kulm and Suvretta House both list December 4, 2026 to March 29, 2027 as their winter season, and Kulm adds a summer season from June 12 to August 30, 2026. Kronenhof lists June 12, 2026 to April 4, 2027, and Grace La Margna is open all year. Forbes lists the Carlton as open December to March.
