The most expensive places to sleep are in the Alps, where Cheval Blanc Courchevel, a three-Key MICHELIN hotel, lists rooms from €2,500 a night on its MICHELIN Guide page.
This guide picks the luxury ski resorts worth the money in the US, Europe and Japan, with one anchor hotel for each, a dated 2026-27 lift ticket price where the resort or a named outlet publishes one, and the nearest airport that takes private jets.
How We Picked
We started with recognition that someone outside the resort has to earn: Forbes Travel Guide ratings for 2026 (the Star Awards were announced on February 11, 2026, per Hospitality Net) and the MICHELIN Guide Keys, using MICHELIN’s own ski hotel guides for Europe (December 8, 2025) and for the United States (page dated November 5, 2026). Then we looked for places where the mountain and the hotel are a single decision: ski-in, ski-out access, or a lift within a short walk.
Two limits you should know about. First, the MICHELIN US ski guide lists hotels by resort but, for most of them, does not state the Key level on the page, so where no count is stated we say “listed by MICHELIN” and nothing more. Second, we give a price only when a resort or a named outlet published it for 2026-27, and we say which day the price applies to. Window prices move with demand. We take no paid placement.

The Best Luxury Ski Resorts in the US
Aspen, Colorado
Aspen is the one US resort here where the anchor hotel carries a Forbes Five-Star rating. The Little Nell holds Five-Star for 2026 per Forbes Travel Guide, with 92 rooms across 30 room varieties, and it sits at the base of Aspen Mountain. Its slopeside Ajax Tavern serves lunch and après-ski, per the same Forbes page.
MICHELIN’s US ski guide also lists Hotel Jerome (founded 1869, about five minutes from the Ajax Gondola) and Mollie Aspen, which it gives One Key, with daily shuttles to Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk.
A standard one-day Aspen Snowmass ticket was priced at $209, per the Denver Gazette in September 2026. For 2026-27, Aspen Mountain runs from November 26, 2026 to April 18, 2027, and Snowmass from November 26, 2026 to April 11, 2027, per aspensnowmass.com. For the airfield, see our guide to Aspen airport.
Deer Valley and Park City, Utah
Deer Valley sits near the top of the US price list: TownLift reported in September 2026 that the 2026-27 peak adult ticket is $349. SnowBrains listed $349 at the window and $309 online for Saturday, December 26, 2026 (August 2026).
For the stay, MICHELIN’s US ski guide lists Stein Eriksen Lodge, on the mountain, and Montage Deer Valley, with more than 200 rooms and direct access to the trails and lifts. Forbes Travel Guide lists The St. Regis Deer Valley at Four-Star (Forbes Travel Guide homepage, November 2026). In town, MICHELIN lists Goldener Hirsch, Auberge Collection, with a lift to the Silver Lake Express outside, and the 12-room Washington School House Hotel.
Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado
Vail Mountain’s 2026-27 peak adult ticket is $374 and Beaver Creek’s is $392, per TownLift in September 2026, the highest of the major US resorts it compiled.
MICHELIN’s US ski guide lists two Vail hotels: Sonnenalp Hotel, a Bavarian-style hotel a short walk from the lifts, and Four Seasons Vail, whose concierge can arrange a three-story ski-in, ski-out chalet. Beaver Creek is a short drive down the valley from Vail, so either hotel works as a base for both.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Jackson Hole prices close to the Colorado giants: SnowBrains listed $339 at the window and $255 online for Saturday, December 26, 2026 (August 2026).
MICHELIN’s US ski guide lists Caldera House at Teton Village, eight suites with an alpine club lounge and a tram “around the corner.” In town it lists Hotel Jackson (55 rooms) and The Cloudveil (100 rooms), both with free shuttles to the mountain.
Yellowstone Club, Montana
The Yellowstone Club is the private option, and you cannot buy a ticket. The San Francisco Standard reported in December 2022 that only homeowners can be members, that the club’s fact sheet counted 864 members and that it covers 2,700 acres with 18 lifts and more than 100 trails. A member told the paper the initiation fee had risen to $400,000 from $300,000 in a 2018 fact sheet, and dues to around $60,000 a year. Those two figures come from one anonymous member and are not confirmed by the club.
For a public alternative nearby, MICHELIN’s US ski guide lists Montage Big Sky (139 rooms) and One&Only Moonlight Basin, which connects to the Big Sky lifts by a private heated gondola.
The Best Luxury Ski Resorts in Europe
Courchevel 1850, France
Courchevel 1850 is the Alpine benchmark for price. Cheval Blanc Courchevel holds three MICHELIN Keys, has 36 rooms, and is ski-in, ski-out on the Bellecôte piste, per MICHELIN’s December 2025 guide. Its MICHELIN page lists rooms from €2,500 a night and a three-star restaurant, Le 1947. Le K2 Palace also holds three Keys, with 29 rooms above the Cospillot piste.
Courchevel is part of the Three Valleys, where Alti-Mag listed an adult one-day pass at €84.20 for 2026-27, a published guide price rather than a resort quote, with a six-day pass at €421.
St. Moritz, Switzerland
The Carlton Hotel St. Moritz holds three MICHELIN Keys, per the December 2025 guide: built in 1913 as a residence for Tsar Nicholas II, lakeside, with Da Vittorio holding two stars. Giardino Mountain in Champfèr (one Key, 77 rooms) gives access to about 215 miles of Engadine slopes and the Cresta Run. For the 2026-27 Corviglia day price, check the resort’s own site for your dates.
Gstaad, Switzerland
Gstaad Palace holds two MICHELIN Keys and 90 rooms at Palacestrasse 28, per its MICHELIN Guide page, and is open only for select months of the year, covering the winter ski season and summer. Check its dates before you plan around it.
Zermatt, Switzerland
Zermatt is car-free. MICHELIN’s December 2025 guide lists Mont Cervin Palace (one Key, founded 1852, with a horse-drawn carriage from the station) and Backstage Hotel Vernissage (one Key, with a private cinema).
On the lifts, Matterhorn Ski Paradise lists a one-day extension to a Flex pass from CHF 72 for the Zermatt area and CHF 86 for the Zermatt-Cervinia area, and the lowest price applies only from November 1 to 27, 2026 and April 19 to May 2, 2027 (matterhornparadise.ch, 2026). The day ticket price is not published as a single figure, so use the resort’s calculator for your dates.
Lech, Austria
Burg Vital Resort in Lech am Arlberg holds one MICHELIN Key, per the December 2025 guide, with ski-in, ski-out access, a large spa and a two-star restaurant, Griggeler Stuba. Walch’s Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel at Zug, also one Key, links to Lech, Zürs and St. Anton.
Beyond: Japan
Niseko, Hokkaido
Niseko is the long-haul option, and the hotel is the draw. Robb Report Australia described the 50-room Higashiyama Niseko Village, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, as a one-Key MICHELIN hotel and a ski-in, ski-out destination with access to 2,191 acres of skiable terrain (September 2024).
Niseko United lists an adult one-day ticket for 2026-27 at ¥13,500 in peak season (December 24, 2026 to February 28, 2027) and ¥12,600 in the regular season (December 12 to 23, 2026 and March 1 to 22, 2027), per niseko.ne.jp.

Flying In Privately
Most of these resorts are a drive from a commercial airport, and a private jet changes the arrival: you land close to the lifts. The airports to know are Aspen for Aspen Snowmass, Eagle County for Vail and Beaver Creek, Jackson Hole for Teton Village, Samedan (Engadin) for St. Moritz, Sion for the Valais and Zermatt, Courchevel’s altiport for the Three Valleys and Innsbruck for the Arlberg.
Two cautions. Mountain airports can close for weather and may limit aircraft size, so a flexible plan matters more than the jet. Engadin Airport describes itself as Europe’s highest-altitude airport, at 1,707 m (5,600 ft) above sea level (engadin-airport.ch, 2026). Runway length and aircraft limits differ at each of the others, so confirm them with your broker before you book. For the Aspen details, read our Aspen airport guide.
