The luxury hotels Houston visitors should start with are The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston, Four Seasons Hotel Houston and Hotel Granduca. The Post Oak is the only Houston hotel with a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating, and it also holds One MICHELIN Key. Four Seasons and Granduca are Forbes Four-Star hotels for 2026.

Houston has no hotel above One MICHELIN Key, so Forbes does most of the ranking work here. If you are comparing the best hotels in Houston by outside recognition, the list below runs from the Five-Star tower in Uptown to small houses in Montrose and the Heights.

How We Picked

We used three things: the Forbes Travel Guide Houston destination page and individual hotel pages, with the 2026 Star Awards banner; the MICHELIN Guide’s full 2026 US Key selection of September 18, 2026, plus its first Texas Keys article of November 12, 2024; and Visit Houston’s September 2026 summary of the Houston Key hotels.

Room counts come from Forbes, MICHELIN or Visit Houston, and where none gives a figure we leave it out. We take no paid placement.

Keys vs Stars: Two Different Judges

MICHELIN’s first Texas Keys announcement named 20 hotels across the state, 17 of them at One Key, and three of those were in Houston (MICHELIN Guide, November 12, 2024). The 2026 US selection lists five Houston hotels, all at One Key (MICHELIN Guide, September 18, 2026), and Visit Houston notes that Hotel Daphne is the new name among them (Visit Houston, September 23, 2026).

Forbes scores service as well as the building, which is why a tower hotel can carry Five Stars while a design-led boutique with a MICHELIN Key does not appear on its Houston page at all. Use the Keys for character and the Stars for service polish.

What “5 Star Hotels Houston” Really Means

Searches for 5 star hotels Houston usually mean one of two things. Strictly, it is Forbes Travel Guide’s Five-Star rating, and in Houston that is a single hotel, The Post Oak, whose spa is also rated Five-Star. Loosely, it means the Four-Star group (Four Seasons, Granduca, The Houstonian) plus the MICHELIN Key houses. Both groups are in the picks below, and every rating is dated.

Why the MICHELIN List Is Short

MICHELIN’s first Texas article put 3 of the state’s 17 One Key hotels in Houston in 2024. By the 2026 selection Houston has five, and two of the newest, Saint Augustine and Daphne, are small houses that opened in December 2024 and December 2025, per Visit Houston. No Texas hotel holds Three Keys, and the three Two Key hotels in the state (Commodore Perry Estate, Hotel Emma and Bowie House) are all outside Houston, per MICHELIN (2026).

The Best Luxury Hotels in Houston

The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston

Forbes Five-Star and One MICHELIN Key. It has 250 guest rooms in a 38-story tower at 1600 West Loop South, and it opened in March 2018, per Forbes Travel Guide. Visit Houston adds 20 executive residences. The Presidential Suite is about 5,000 square feet with its own elevator entrance and helipad. The Cellar holds more than 30,000 bottles with a stated value of $5 million, and the art comes from owner Tilman J. Fertitta’s private collection. The hotel’s own site calls it the only Texas Forbes Five-Star hotel and spa. MICHELIN called it “the swankiest hotel in town” in 2024, per Visit Houston.

Four Seasons Hotel Houston

Forbes Four-Star for 2026. It sits at 1300 Lamar Street with more than 400 renovated rooms and suites, including 103 luxury suites, per Forbes, and a renovation that debuted in 2022. The top 10 floors are residences. Forbes lists the first Topgolf Swing Suites, the Toro Toro restaurant, a 200-whisky lounge and an outdoor pool. It is also the downtown pick, 16 to 24 minutes from Hobby by Forbes’ estimate.

Hotel Granduca Houston

Forbes Four-Star for 2026. It has 121 rooms and suites at 1080 Uptown Park Boulevard, per Forbes. A renovation of the ground floor finished in March 2025, with interiors by Kara Childress that evoke an Italian villa. The heated courtyard pool is ringed by ivy-covered walls, and Forbes says the three-bedroom suites with full kitchens are the only ones of their kind in Houston. It is minutes from River Oaks District and The Galleria.

The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa

Forbes Four-Star for 2026. The Houstonian stands on 27 acres of woods at 111 North Post Oak Lane, per Forbes, with a 175,000 square foot health club and three pools. Trellis Spa, also rated Four-Star, has 21 treatment rooms. This is the pick for a resort feel inside the city.

Hotel ZaZa Museum District

One MICHELIN Key. MICHELIN lists 315 rooms at 5701 Main Street, with eight themed luxury suites and smaller concept suites. Visit Houston describes a 12-story building with suites of nearly 3,000 square feet, the city’s largest, and calls the Magnificent Seven and Concept Suites its signature. MICHELIN’s January 2026 guide places it within walking distance of the Museum of Fine Arts, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and Hermann Park.

Hotel ZaZa Memorial City

One MICHELIN Key. It has 159 guestrooms at 9787 Katy Freeway in the Energy Corridor, per Visit Houston, which also lists a poolside area, spa treatments and a free shuttle. MICHELIN praised its design in 2024 as “clean-lined and bright,” inspired partly by the mid-century modernism of Palm Springs.

Hotel Saint Augustine

One MICHELIN Key. It has 71 guest rooms across five buildings in Montrose, near The Menil Collection, per Visit Houston. It opened in December 2024, has a ballroom and an outdoor pool, and its decor has a surrealist edge.

Hotel Daphne

One MICHELIN Key, new in the 2026 selection. Visit Houston places it in The Heights and says it opened in December 2025 with an Italian-style restaurant and bar, a library, a courtyard and a retail shop.

Thompson Houston

It holds no MICHELIN Key, but MICHELIN’s January 2026 Houston guide features it near Buffalo Bayou Park, with midcentury modern design and many rooms facing the park and the downtown skyline. Choose it for the trails and the view rather than a rating.

What a Night Costs

The Forbes pages for the Post Oak, Four Seasons, Granduca and Houstonian show no nightly amount, and the Post Oak’s own site publishes no rate. Houston hotels that sit near the Galleria or downtown convention business shift with the calendar, so check each hotel’s booking page for your dates. Where to Stay: Areas

Uptown and the Galleria

The Post Oak and Hotel Granduca are both here, per Forbes, and Visit Houston places the Post Oak in the Galleria and Uptown Park area. It is the most concentrated area for the top-rated hotels in Houston and suits shopping and business trips.

Downtown and Buffalo Bayou

Four Seasons is downtown at 1300 Lamar Street. Thompson Houston is near Buffalo Bayou Park, per MICHELIN, and suits guests who want walking and cycling trails.

Montrose and the Museum District

Hotel Saint Augustine is in Montrose, and Hotel ZaZa Museum District is on Main Street near Hermann Park. La Colombe d’Or, at 3410 Montrose Boulevard, has rooms in a mansion, a tower and garden bungalows, per its own site, and carries no Forbes rating or MICHELIN Key. This is the area for museums and smaller houses.

The Heights, Memorial and the Energy Corridor

Hotel Daphne is in The Heights, and Hotel ZaZa Memorial City is on the Katy Freeway in the Energy Corridor, per Visit Houston.

Best for Spa and Grounds

The Post Oak’s spa is described by Forbes as about 20,000 square feet and the only Forbes Five-Star spa in the state. The Houstonian offers the opposite: 27 acres of woods, three pools and the 21-room Trellis Spa. Choose the first for polish and the second for space.

Best for Design and Small Houses

Hotel Saint Augustine has 71 rooms, and ZaZa Memorial City has 159, both small next to the Four Seasons. For staying close to galleries, the ZaZa in the Museum District is within walking distance of the Museum of Fine Arts, per MICHELIN.

Arriving by Private Jet: Hobby, Bush Intercontinental and Sugar Land

William P. Hobby (HOU) is 8 miles southeast of Houston, per FAA data via AirNav, with two 7,602 foot runways. AirNav lists six FBOs there: Wilson Air Center, Million Air Houston, Jet Aviation Houston, Atlantic Aviation, Signature Aviation and Galaxy FBO. Bush Intercontinental (IAH) is 15 miles north, with a 12,001 foot runway and two FBOs, Atlantic Aviation IAH and Signature Aviation, per AirNav. Sugar Land Regional (SGR), owned by the City of Sugar Land, is 17 miles southwest with an 8,000 foot runway and GlobalSelect as its FBO, per AirNav.
