The best luxury hotels on the Amalfi Coast by outside recognition are Il San Pietro di Positano and Borgo Santandrea, both at Three MICHELIN Keys. The Forbes Travel Guide 2026 Five-Star list names a different set: Le Sirenuse in Positano, Caruso in Ravello and Casa Angelina in Praiano. Most of these hotels are seasonal, so the first decision is the month, not the room.

Nightly rates are the weak point. MICHELIN’s hotel pages for these properties show no figures, and the hotels publish rates only through booking calendars, so this guide gives no nightly prices. It does give room counts, seasons and the awards each hotel holds.

How We Picked

We used three outside judges and a spread of towns. The MICHELIN Guide’s Keys come from its Italy selection (the full 2025 list dated October 8, 2025, with Borgo Santandrea updated in the September 18, 2026 global article). The Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards 2026 give the second view. The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 extended list adds a third for the two hotels that appear on it.

The judges disagree, as they do in most cities. Forbes rates Le Sirenuse Five-Star while MICHELIN gives it one Key, and the reverse is true of Il San Pietro, which holds Three Keys and a Forbes Four-Star rating. Room counts and seasons come from each hotel’s MICHELIN page. We take no paid placement.

The Best Luxury Hotels on the Amalfi Coast

Il San Pietro di Positano

Three MICHELIN Keys, Forbes Four-Star for 2026, and No. 58 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 extended list. MICHELIN lists 57 rooms on Via Laurito in Positano, each with a private terrace, stepping down a cliff, with a lift to a private beach and a restaurant, Zass, at the top level that MICHELIN marks with a star. The season runs April to October, per MICHELIN.

Borgo Santandrea

Three Keys, promoted from Two, per the MICHELIN Guide’s September 18, 2026 global article, which calls it a sixties modernist structure set directly into a seaside cliff. Its MICHELIN page lists 45 rooms and a seasonal outdoor pool. It was No. 84 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 extended list, per Reporter Gourmet.

Hotel Santa Caterina

Two Keys, Forbes Four-Star for 2026. MICHELIN lists 66 rooms in Amalfi, a hillside setting above the sea, a private beach club reached by elevator, and terraces, olive groves and lemon orchards. It has been family owned for nearly a century. The restaurant Glicine has a cliffside terrace. It is a seasonal property, open mid-March to October. The only price MICHELIN shows is an extra bed at €160 per person per night.

Villa Treville

Two Keys, and No. 91 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 extended list. MICHELIN lists 16 rooms, all suites, spread across four villas that descend to the sea above Positano. It was once the summer residence of the director Franco Zeffirelli. A shuttle boat reaches Positano in under 10 minutes. MICHELIN notes access involves 20 steps and an elevator that does not reach every floor.

Le Sirenuse

One Key, and Forbes Five-Star for 2026. MICHELIN lists 59 rooms at Via Colombo 30 in Positano, in an 18th-century summer house of the Sersale family, who still run it. Rooms have antiques and balconies. It is seasonal, April to October.

Casa Angelina

One Key, and Forbes Five-Star for 2026. MICHELIN lists 36 rooms in Praiano, most with coastal terraces, open from mid-March to October. Children under 12 are not accepted, per MICHELIN. The restaurant Un Piano nel Cielo holds a MICHELIN star.

Caruso, A Belmond Hotel, Amalfi Coast

One Key, and Forbes Five-Star for 2026. MICHELIN lists 50 rooms in Ravello, on a cliff, with a terrace view that MICHELIN attributes to Gore Vidal as the most beautiful in the world. It is renovated but keeps its classic style. Open April to October.

Palazzo Avino

One Key. MICHELIN lists 43 rooms in a 12th-century hilltop palace about 1,000 feet above Ravello, with the one-star restaurant Rossellinis. The page does not state an opening season.

Palazzo Pascal

One Key. MICHELIN’s May 2024 Amalfi Coast article describes it as a seven-suite boutique hotel in a centuries-old aristocratic palazzo in Scala, with coast views from balconies or terraces. It is the smallest hotel on this list.

Verdict: Il San Pietro is the only hotel here with Three Keys, a Forbes star rating and a place on the 50 Best extended list. For Forbes Five-Star, choose among Le Sirenuse, Caruso and Casa Angelina.

Best Hotels in Positano

Positano has the densest cluster of recognized hotels. Il San Pietro (Three Keys), Villa Treville (Two Keys) and Le Sirenuse (One Key, Forbes Five-Star) are all on this list, and Il San Pietro and Villa Treville both appear on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 extended list. MICHELIN’s Positano listings also include Hotel Villa Franca and Hotel Marincanto.

The practical difference is access. Villa Treville runs a shuttle boat that MICHELIN says reaches Positano in under 10 minutes. Le Sirenuse sits at Via Colombo 30, in the town itself, and MICHELIN calls it quiet. Il San Pietro, at Via Laurito, uses a lift to its private beach.

Why Many Hotels Are Closed in Winter

MICHELIN lists Il San Pietro, Le Sirenuse and Caruso as open April to October, and Santa Caterina and Casa Angelina from mid-March to October. Palazzo Avino, Villa Treville and Borgo Santandrea list no season on their MICHELIN pages (Borgo Santandrea shows a seasonal pool), so confirm dates with the hotel. Plan around May to September for the full range, and check the opening date before you compare rooms.

Where to Stay: Towns and Areas

  • Positano: Il San Pietro, Le Sirenuse and Villa Treville, the postcard stretch of the coast.
  • Amalfi: Hotel Santa Caterina and Borgo Santandrea, near the town and its harbor.
  • Ravello: Caruso and Palazzo Avino, up the hillside and away from the beaches. MICHELIN places Palazzo Avino about 1,000 feet above the town.
  • Praiano: Casa Angelina, between Positano and Amalfi.
  • Scala: Palazzo Pascal, the quietest address on the list.

Further along the coast, MICHELIN’s 2025 list also gives Sorrento’s Bellevue Syrene 1820 and La Minervetta Two Keys. Capri’s JK Place holds Three Keys in the same list. Those sit outside this guide.

Best for Couples

Two hotels stand out on size. Casa Angelina takes no children under 12 and has 36 rooms, most with coastal terraces, per MICHELIN. Palazzo Pascal has seven suites. Both are small enough to feel private. If a famous view matters more, Caruso’s terrace is the one MICHELIN credits to Gore Vidal.

Arriving by Private Jet: Naples and Salerno

Naples International Airport (NAP) is the main choice. LunaJets says it is about 60 km from the coast, with a roughly 90-minute drive to Positano and a private jet terminal, and that a short helicopter transfer can be arranged. LunaJets is a charter broker, so read those times as marketing estimates and ask your handler for current ones.

Salerno Costa d’Amalfi (QSR) is the closer alternative. Mercury Jets says it is thirteen miles southeast of downtown Salerno, served by Sky Services and other FBO partners, with helicopter shuttles to Positano. It also says a new general aviation terminal was slated to open by late 2025, so ask your broker whether it is in service. For guidance on booking, see our private jet charter guide.
