The best hotels on Lake Como by outside recognition are Passalacqua, the lake’s only Three MICHELIN Keys hotel, and Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como, its only Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star for 2026. Villa d’Este in Cernobbio, with 152 rooms and Two Keys, is the grandest of the old lakeside names, per the MICHELIN Guide.

None of the hotels below publishes a nightly rate on its own site or its MICHELIN page, so this guide gives no price numbers. It shows what can be sourced: awards, room counts, season dates and how to get there.

How We Picked

We combined the MICHELIN Guide’s Italy Key list (the guide’s article dated October 7, 2025, plus each hotel’s MICHELIN page), the Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards 2026, and a spread of towns around the lake. The lists disagree, so we show both. The October 2025 MICHELIN list for the lake names Passalacqua at Three Keys, Grand Hotel Victoria and Grand Hotel Tremezzo at Two, and Palazzo Albricci Peregrini and Villa Làrio at One; Villa d’Este’s own MICHELIN page now shows Two Keys, and that is the figure used here. Forbes lists four lake hotels: Mandarin Oriental at Five-Star, Villa d’Este and Grand Hotel Tremezzo at Four-Star, and Grand Hotel Victoria as Recommended.

Il Sereno and Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni are shown as their own MICHELIN hotel pages state them. We take no paid placement.

The Best Luxury Hotels on Lake Como

Passalacqua, Moltrasio

Three MICHELIN Keys, the highest distinction, and one of five hotels that earned Three Keys in Italy in 2025, per the MICHELIN Guide’s November 2025 article. It has 24 suites across three buildings (The Villa, The Palazz and Casa al Lago), at Via Besana 59 in Moltrasio, per its MICHELIN page. A late 18th-century residence, it became a hotel in 2022, and Vincenzo Bellini stayed there in 1829 and composed Norma and La Sonnambula, per MICHELIN.

Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como, Blevio

Forbes Five-Star for 2026, and the only Five-Star on the lake in the Forbes listing. MICHELIN lists 75 rooms at Via Caronti 69, in a lakeside complex of 18th and 19th-century buildings formerly known as CastaDiva, with a pool on the lake and a fine-dining restaurant. The hotel’s own page names a spa, restaurants and boat trips but gives no room count or season dates.

Il Sereno, Torno

Two MICHELIN Keys on its MICHELIN page, which lists 40 rooms. It is a modern glass building on the site of an old stone boathouse on the eastern shore, with interiors by Patricia Urquiola, vertical gardens by Patrick Blanc and a long infinity pool, per MICHELIN. Its restaurant, Il Sereno Al Lago, holds one MICHELIN star. MICHELIN says bookings run from mid-March to early November.

Villa d’Este, Cernobbio

Two MICHELIN Keys and Forbes Four-Star for 2026. MICHELIN lists 152 rooms; the hotel’s own site cites 151 across the Cardinal’s Building and the Queen’s Pavilion. The villa was built in 1568 and has taken guests since 1873, per MICHELIN. The hotel announced its 154th season on March 18, 2026, running until January 7, 2027 with extended Christmas-period hours, per Lake Como Tourism. MICHELIN gives a normal March to November season, so confirm dates for your trip.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Tremezzina

Two MICHELIN Keys and Forbes Four-Star for 2026. MICHELIN lists 77 rooms and suites, and Hospitality Net reported that the hotel reopened for 2026 on March 19 with 77 rooms and a restored 1930s villa, CASABIANCA, with 15 rooms. Its WOW (Water On the Water) pool floats in front of a private beach, and the park was once the botanical garden of the neighboring Villa Carlotta, per MICHELIN. The hotel opened in 1910; the De Santis family has run it since 1975. MICHELIN gives a mid-March to end of October season.

Grand Hotel Victoria, Menaggio

Two MICHELIN Keys, and listed by Forbes Travel Guide as Recommended for 2026. It sits in Menaggio on Lake Como, per the MICHELIN Guide’s Italy list. Menaggio is on the west shore, across the water from Bellagio.

Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, Bellagio

A neoclassical villa on the promontory that divides the lake’s two branches, run by the Bucher family for four generations, with 94 rooms, a 1,500 square meter spa and Churchill, Kennedy and Helmut Newton suites, per its MICHELIN page. It is included for its position in Bellagio rather than for a Key or a Forbes star.

Palazzo Albricci Peregrini and Villa Làrio

Both hold One MICHELIN Key in the guide’s October 2025 list. Palazzo Albricci Peregrini is in Como town, and Villa Làrio Lake Como is in Pognana Lario. Both are smaller, quieter alternatives to the grand hotels above.

Which Season, and Which Hotels Close

Most Lake Como grand hotels are seasonal. MICHELIN gives Villa d’Este a March to November season and Grand Hotel Tremezzo mid-March to the end of October. Il Sereno takes bookings from mid-March to early November, per its MICHELIN page. Villa d’Este stretched its 2026 season to January 7, 2027, per Lake Como Tourism. Mandarin Oriental and Passalacqua do not publish season dates on their MICHELIN pages, so ask them directly before planning a winter trip.

What a Night Costs

The hotels do not publish fixed rates: MICHELIN’s pages for Passalacqua, Mandarin Oriental, Il Sereno, Villa d’Este, Grand Hotel Tremezzo and Villa Serbelloni show only the currency and a booking link, and Villa d’Este’s own site lists only booking contacts. We therefore give no number. Price your dates directly, and compare the Keys and stars above before you compare fares.

Where to Stay: Bellagio, Tremezzina, Cernobbio and More

  • Bellagio: Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni sits on the promontory that divides the lake’s two branches, per MICHELIN.

  • Tremezzina: Grand Hotel Tremezzo, next to Villa Carlotta’s former botanical garden, per MICHELIN.

  • Cernobbio: Villa d’Este, 60 minutes by car from Malpensa and 15 minutes from Como railway station, per MICHELIN.

  • Moltrasio, Torno and Blevio: Passalacqua (Via Besana 59), Il Sereno (Via Torrazza 10, on the eastern shore) and Mandarin Oriental (Via Caronti 69), per their MICHELIN pages.

  • Menaggio: Grand Hotel Victoria.

  • Como town: Palazzo Albricci Peregrini. Aeroaffaires lists the Tavernola heliport about 5 minutes from the center of Como.

  • Varenna: no hotel there appears among the Key and Forbes picks above, so it works better as a ferry day trip than as a base.

Best for Old-World Grandeur

Villa d’Este (built 1568, a hotel since 1873) and Grand Hotel Tremezzo (opened 1910) are the two with the longest records, and both hold Two Keys and Four-Star ratings. Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio has hosted guests for over 150 years, per MICHELIN. For a more modern lake, Il Sereno is the contrast: glass, Urquiola interiors and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Best for Wellness and Pools

Grand Hotel Tremezzo has three pools: the floating WOW, the Flower Pool and an infinity pool in the T Spa, per MICHELIN. Villa Serbelloni lists a 1,500 square meter spa with indoor and outdoor pools. Villa d’Este has an indoor pool and a seasonal outdoor pool, per MICHELIN.

Arriving by Private Jet: Linate, Malpensa and Lugano

Three airports do the work. Global Charter calls Milan Linate (LIN) the primary airport for private jets to the lake, open 24 hours with a dedicated General Aviation Terminal. Aeroaffaires gives these road distances to Como: Malpensa (MXP) 58 km and 45 minutes, Linate 84 km and 1 hour 10, Lugano (LUG) 34 km and 40 minutes. Luxaviation calls Malpensa the primary private jet gateway to the lake, at about 45 to 60 minutes by car.

By air, Aeroaffaires lists about 20 minutes by helicopter from Malpensa and 25 from Linate. It describes a private heliport at Villa d’Este in Cernobbio. Ask your hotel about helicopter arrivals before you book.
