The best luxury hotels in Paris by outside recognition are the ones that hold France’s Palace distinction and three MICHELIN Keys: Le Bristol, Four Seasons George V, Plaza Athénée, La Réserve, Le Meurice and Cheval Blanc Paris. The MICHELIN Guide said on June 2, 2026 that 13 Paris hotels hold Palace status for 2026, and its October 2025 list names nine Paris hotels at Three Keys.

None of the hotels below publishes a nightly rate on its MICHELIN page, so this guide gives no room prices it cannot date. What it does give is the record: who holds which distinction, how many rooms each has, and what is worth knowing before you book.

How We Picked

We used three lists and kept the hotels that appear on at least two. The first is France’s Palace distinction, which the MICHELIN Guide says is awarded by the French Ministry of Tourism by ministerial decision for a three-year period, with Atout France setting the eligibility requirements (MICHELIN Guide, June 2, 2026). The second is the MICHELIN Keys for Paris (MICHELIN Guide, October 8, 2025). The third is Forbes Travel Guide’s Paris destination page, viewed in November 2026.

Room counts come from each hotel’s MICHELIN page. We take no paid placement, and we have not stayed anywhere we describe: this is a record of what the judges and the hotels themselves say.

Palace, Keys and Stars: Three Different Judges

Palace is a national label. MICHELIN’s June 2026 article counts 33 Palaces across France, 13 of them in Paris, with six new for 2026 and four long-standing members removed. Three of the new ones are in Paris: Bvlgari Hotel Paris, Cheval Blanc Paris and Fouquet’s Paris.

The MICHELIN Keys are a separate, international scale, and its pages label Three Keys “an extraordinary stay” and Two Keys “an exceptional stay.” Forbes Travel Guide grades by Stars and, on its Paris page, lists ten Five-Star hotels.

The lists overlap but do not match. The Ritz Paris holds Three Keys and a Forbes Five-Star rating but does not appear in MICHELIN’s June 2026 table of Paris Palaces. Shangri-La Paris is a 2026 Palace and a Forbes Five-Star hotel but holds one MICHELIN Key. Use Palace and Stars for service, Keys for character. For the wider ranking, see our Forbes Five-Star hotels guide.

What a Night Costs

The MICHELIN pages for these hotels show a rate calendar but no nightly figures (November 2026), and the hotels do not publish fixed rates. Price your own dates directly.

What the pages do publish are supplements, which hint at the scale: an extra bed is €105 per person per night at Plaza Athénée and Le Meurice, €200 at the Ritz and €250 at Cheval Blanc (MICHELIN hotel pages, November 2026). For the very top of the market, our guide to the most expensive hotels in the world covers suite pricing.

How to Choose Between Them

Start with the area, because Paris hotels sit in clusters. If you want the shopping streets of avenue Montaigne and the Golden Triangle, the 8th arrondissement hotels (Plaza Athénée, George V, La Réserve, Le Bristol) are within a short walk of one another. If you want the Louvre, the Tuileries and the Seine, the 1st arrondissement trio of Le Meurice, the Ritz and Cheval Blanc is the better fit.

Next, decide between scale and privacy. Le Bristol has 189 rooms and The Peninsula 200, which in practice means more restaurants, larger spas and deeper staffing. La Réserve has 40 rooms and Saint James 50, which is the opposite trade. Finally, check the season and the dates directly with the hotel, since the MICHELIN pages carry no live rates. If you are comparing Paris with another capital, our guide to the best luxury hotels in London uses the same method.

Where to Stay: Areas

  • Golden Triangle and the 8th: Le Bristol, Four Seasons George V, Plaza Athénée, La Réserve and Crillon. MICHELIN places the George V in the Golden Triangle, among the fashion houses, and lists the Crillon at Place de la Concorde.
  • The 1st and Place Vendôme: the Ritz at 15 place Vendôme, Le Meurice on rue de Rivoli, and Cheval Blanc on the Seine at the Pont Neuf.
  • Saint-Germain and the Left Bank: Mandarin Oriental Lutetia in the 6th. MICHELIN’s June 2026 table has it as the one Left Bank Palace in Paris.
  • The 16th: Saint James and The Peninsula, near Trocadéro and avenue Kléber.

Best for Food

Three hotels on this list house a three-star restaurant: Le Bristol (Épicure), La Réserve (Le Gabriel) and Cheval Blanc (Plénitude), per their MICHELIN pages. The George V has three starred restaurants under one roof, and The Peninsula has L’Oiseau Blanc at two stars.

Best for a Small, Private Stay

Smallness is the point at La Réserve (40 rooms), Saint James (50) and Cheval Blanc (72), all Three Keys. Saint James is the only one with its own walled garden in a château-style house. Larger, more service-led hotels such as Le Bristol (189) and The Peninsula (200) suit those who want a pool, spa and staff scale.

Arriving by Private Jet: Le Bourget

Paris-Le Bourget (LFPB) is the business aviation airport. Ace Jet lists three FBOs there, ExecuJet Paris, Jetex Paris and Signature Flight Support, about 10 km from central Paris with a 20 to 40 minute drive depending on traffic. Universal Weather and Aviation said in December 2025 that the drive can run from 20 minutes to 1.5 hours, and that Universal Aviation France also operates a Le Bourget FBO.
