London Luton (LTN) is best known for low cost airlines, but it also has a business aviation side, with private terminals run by Harrods Aviation and Signature Flight Support. The airport is owned by Luton Rising, which belongs to Luton Council, and run by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd under a concession that ends in 2032. For travellers starting north of London, it is often the nearest private jet airport. This guide covers the FBOs, the runway and how Luton compares with Farnborough and Biggin Hill.
Who Owns and Runs Luton
The airport’s ownership page says the airport is owned by Luton Council through Luton Rising, the trading name of London Luton Airport Limited. It is operated by London Luton Airport Operations Ltd (LLAOL) under a 1998 concession agreement that runs to 2032. LLAOL’s shareholders are Aena, with 51%, and InfraBridge, with 49%.
Because Luton mixes airline and private traffic on one runway, the private side runs from separate FBO buildings, so passengers on a private flight start at the FBO rather than the airline terminal.
Runway
| Runway | Length | Width | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 07/25 | 7,093 ft (2,162 m) | 148 ft (45 m) | OurAirports |
One runway of just over 7,000 ft handles everything from light jets to large cabin business jets. For how runway length relates to aircraft size, see how much runway a private jet needs.
Luton FBOs
The airport’s business and private aviation page lists two FBO operators:
- Harrods Aviation, President Way. The airport describes it as a leading London based business aviation provider offering FBO services at Luton.
- Signature Flight Support, at Percival Way and at Terminal 2, Britannia House on Frank Lester Way. Signature runs a worldwide FBO network covering refuelling, hangarage and maintenance.
Your operator chooses the FBO, but you can ask for one. Handling and parking fees are passed on in a charter quote; see what it costs to land a private plane.
Luton, Farnborough or Biggin Hill
Our London route pages list three private jet airports. Farnborough is business aviation only and sits southwest of London. Biggin Hill is southeast of the city. Luton is the northern option, which makes it the natural pick for the City, north London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
