No Arizona hotel appears in the 1 to 100 lists of The 50 Best Hotels 2026, formerly The World's 50 Best Hotels (the50.com, 2026)

The luxury hotels Scottsdale travelers book first are The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician, the city’s only Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star, and Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, the one resort with both a Forbes Four-Star and a MICHELIN Key. Four hotels in the MICHELIN Guide’s Scottsdale Phoenix list carry a Key, all at the One Key level.

Scottsdale is a resort town, so the shortlist below is about grounds, mountain views and spas more than city-center addresses. Hotels here price by date rather than publishing a standing nightly rate, so the cost section explains how to compare instead of quoting a number.

How We Picked

We used three outside judges and one local filter. The MICHELIN Guide’s Scottsdale Phoenix hotel list (November 2026) supplies the Keys. Forbes Travel Guide’s Scottsdale destination page and hotel pages, which carry 2026 ratings, supply the Stars. The 50 Best Hotels 2026 (formerly The World’s 50 Best Hotels) names no Arizona property in its 1 to 100.

The local filter is simple: the hotel has to sit in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley or the Camelback corridor between them, or in far north Scottsdale. Room counts come from the MICHELIN or Forbes page named in each entry, or the hotel’s own site where neither gives one. We take no paid placement.

Stars vs Keys in Scottsdale

Forbes lists only four Scottsdale hotels on its destination page: one Five-Star, two Four-Star and one Recommended. MICHELIN lists 16 hotels for the area and marks four with a Key. The two judges overlap in one place only: Four Seasons Troon North holds a Key and a Forbes Four-Star.

That thin overlap is useful. Use Forbes for service polish at The Canyon Suites and The Phoenician, and use the Keys for character at Mountain Shadows, Royal Palms and The Global Ambassador.

The Best Luxury Hotels in Scottsdale

The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician

Forbes Five-Star for 2026, and the only Scottsdale hotel at that level on Forbes Travel Guide’s destination page. It is the suites-only wing of The Phoenician at 6000 East Camelback Road, at the base of Camelback Mountain. Rooms start at 600 square feet and run up to one- to three-bedroom suites and a presidential suite, per Forbes Travel Guide (2026). The eight standalone villas have kitchens, gas fireplaces and a private pool complex, and Canyon Suites guests have their own palm-fringed pool with cabanas and a waterfall through a cactus garden.

The Phoenician, A Luxury Collection Resort

Forbes Four-Star for 2026. Forbes counts 645 accommodations: 577 guest rooms and 68 suites, plus eight standalone villas, on about 200 acres. It has an 18-hole golf course designed by Phil Smith and eight dining venues, including J&G Steakhouse. Forbes puts the resort 10 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor and 18 to 22 minutes from Scottsdale Airport. MICHELIN lists the hotel but shows no Key.

Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North

One MICHELIN Key, per its MICHELIN Guide page (2026), and Forbes Four-Star for 2026. It has 210 casitas and suites on 40 acres in the foothills of Pinnacle Peak, per Forbes Travel Guide, with 19 rooms that have private pools and 18 poolside cabanas. Guests get priority tee times at the two Tom Weiskopf courses of the private Troon North Golf Club. Talavera, a Spanish steakhouse, is the signature restaurant.

Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale

One MICHELIN Key. It has 217 rooms at 5445 East Lincoln Drive in Paradise Valley, per the MICHELIN Guide, which describes a complete rebuild of a historic Phoenix-area hideaway rather than a renovation. Many rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass views of Camelback Mountain, there are twin 75-foot pools, and the Short Course is an 18-hole par 3 layout. Guests must be 21 or older to check in.

Royal Palms Resort and Spa

One MICHELIN Key. It has 116 rooms at 5200 East Camelback Road, in a Spanish colonial mansion built in 1929 by a nephew of J.P. Morgan, per the MICHELIN Guide. Rooms are estate rooms with balconies and deep soaking tubs, plus freestanding villas on private courtyards. It sits between downtown Scottsdale and the Biltmore area, at the foot of Camelback Mountain.

The Global Ambassador

One MICHELIN Key. It has 141 rooms and suites at 4360 East Camelback Road, with Art Deco-inspired design and five restaurants, per the MICHELIN Guide. It is the newest name on this list and the most urban in feel, a Camelback corridor hotel rather than a desert compound.

JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa

Forbes Recommended for 2026. It opened in 1936 and has 453 casitas and suites on 125 acres between Mummy and Camelback mountains, per Forbes Travel Guide, with all casitas upgraded in 2019. The 32,000 square foot spa uses indigenous plants and herbs, and Forbes counts seven restaurants. It is the largest-scale property here, so expect a resort with families and groups rather than a boutique.

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain

A Paradise Valley resort on 53 acres of desert grounds with 110 casitas and suites, plus separately listed mountainside villas, per sanctuaryaz.com in November 2026. Its restaurant is Elements, and the spa is described by the hotel as one of the top destination spas in the country. The site names no specific awards, and neither judge’s Scottsdale list carries it.

Fairmont Scottsdale Princess

The hotel’s own site, in November 2026, calls it a AAA Five Diamond property and lists six pools, five signature restaurants including Ironwood American Kitchen and Toro Scottsdale, and the Sisley-Paris Well & Being Spa. It is a large golf resort with TPC Scottsdale and Grayhawk courses referenced in its offers. It is not on Forbes Travel Guide’s 2026 Scottsdale list or MICHELIN’s Scottsdale Phoenix list.

Hotel Valley Ho

Opened in 1956 at 6850 East Main Street in Old Town Scottsdale, per its own site. MICHELIN counts 194 rooms and describes a 1950s building in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright with mid-century modern décor, two pools and the ZuZu restaurant. MICHELIN lists the hotel without showing a Key.

Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows

MICHELIN counts 185 bungalow-style rooms at 6114 North Scottsdale Road, in a Hyatt boutique brand whose design draws on desert landscapes and the Zuni tribe’s textiles and art. Weft & Warp Art Bar & Kitchen is the main restaurant. MICHELIN lists the hotel without a Key.

The Boulders Resort & Spa

Set in Carefree with a Scottsdale address at 34631 North Tom Darlington Drive, per its site. The resort lists a 33,000 square foot spa on its site (2026). It is the farthest from Old Town on this list, which is the point: a quiet northern base.

Verdict: for service ratings, choose The Canyon Suites or The Phoenician. For the best case across both lists, choose Four Seasons Troon North. For design and a smaller house, Royal Palms has 116 rooms.

What a Night Costs

None of these hotels shows a standing nightly rate (November 2026). Sanctuary, Fairmont, The Boulders and Forbes’ pages for The Phoenician, Four Seasons and Camelback Inn all send guests to a booking engine, and Hotel Valley Ho advertises only dated promotions.

What we can say is how to read the price. Rates at resorts like these swing with season and with what is in town, so price the same dates across two or three hotels before you choose. For the far end of the scale, see our guide to the most expensive hotels in the world.

Where to Stay: Areas

Old Town Scottsdale

Hotel Valley Ho is the hotel here on this list, at the Main Street end of Old Town, with the ZuZu restaurant on site. MICHELIN’s Scottsdale Phoenix list also includes W Scottsdale, The Scott Resort & Spa and Canopy by Hilton Scottsdale Old Town for guests who want to walk to galleries and dinner. If you are searching for old town Scottsdale hotels, this is the pocket to book.

Paradise Valley and the Camelback Corridor

This is where the serious resorts sit. Mountain Shadows, Sanctuary and the JW Marriott Camelback Inn are in Paradise Valley, on Lincoln Drive or beside it. The Phoenician, The Canyon Suites, Royal Palms and The Global Ambassador sit along Camelback Road, which is the quickest route to the city on the Phoenix side. Many rooms here face Camelback Mountain.

North Scottsdale and Pinnacle Peak

Four Seasons Troon North sits in the foothills of Pinnacle Peak in far north Scottsdale, and The Boulders is farther north in Carefree. Expect a longer drive to Old Town, and quieter nights. Forbes puts Troon North 35 to 45 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor.

Best for Golf and Desert Quiet

Four Seasons Troon North gives guests priority tee times at the two Tom Weiskopf courses of the private Troon North Golf Club, per Forbes Travel Guide. The Phoenician has its own 18-hole course. Mountain Shadows has the Short Course, an 18-hole par 3. The Fairmont names TPC Scottsdale and Grayhawk in its offers.

Best for Design and Character

Royal Palms is the old-house choice, with its 1929 Spanish colonial mansion. Hotel Valley Ho is the 1956 mid-century option, which MICHELIN compares to Frank Lloyd Wright. Mountain Shadows is the opposite: a rebuilt resort with Camelback views from glass walls. The Global Ambassador is the Art Deco one.

Arriving by Private Jet: Scottsdale Airport

Most private traffic lands at Scottsdale Airport (SDL) at 15000 North Airport Drive. The city says Forbes ranked it No. 8 among the nation’s busiest business jet airports (October 15, 2026), and credits the airport with almost $1.1 billion in economic activity and 5,171 jobs, per scottsdaleaz.gov (2026). Signature Aviation runs an FBO at 15290 North 78th Way that is open 24 hours a day, with customs on site for international arrivals, per its own site.

The city closed Runway 03/21 and all taxiways for scheduled pavement work in October 2026, per scottsdaleaz.gov. The Phoenician is 18 to 22 minutes from the airport by road, per Forbes.
