Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF) is the airport most private jets use for Miami. It sits 10 miles north of the city, it is owned by Miami-Dade County through the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, and it has three runways, the longest at 8,002 feet. Atlantic Aviation and Fontainebleau Aviation both run 24 hour FBOs on the field. This guide covers the airport, the FBOs, customs for trips to the Bahamas and the Caribbean, and what the routes from OPF cost.
Where Opa-locka Is
The FAA airport record places OPF 10 miles north of Miami, at an elevation of 8 feet, and lists it as attended continuously. Fontainebleau Aviation describes the field as the largest general aviation hub in Miami-Dade County. Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE), further north, is the usual alternative for trips to Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.

Opa-locka FBOs
These FBOs list an Opa-locka location on their own websites:
- Atlantic Aviation, 15000 NW 44th Avenue. Its page lists a 24 hour FBO with hangar space, a ramp canopy and on-field customs from 09:00 to 24:00. It also warns that Presidential flight restrictions are common in South Florida and can affect OPF, which is worth knowing if your dates are fixed.
- Fontainebleau Aviation, 14200 NW 42nd Avenue, its flagship Miami location, listed as open 24 hours on a 42 acre campus with 232,000 square feet of hangar space.
Other operators appear in airport directories, but we list only the FBOs whose own sites we could check. Your broker or operator chooses the FBO, and you can ask for one by name.
Customs for the Bahamas and the Caribbean
Opa-locka is the natural starting point for short international hops because customs is on the field. On a return to the United States, passengers clear at the FBO rather than in an airline terminal. Flights that begin or end in the United States outside the domestic zone pay a per passenger international travel facilities tax, listed by NATA at $23.40 for 2026, instead of the 7.5% domestic excise tax.
