Among ships with a published crew count, Luminara has the most crew per guest, 374 crew for 448 guests at most, per Baird Maritime in June 2025, ahead of Silver Nova at 544 crew for 728 guests, per Silversea.

This guide ranks eight ships, not cruise lines. For the lines, see best luxury cruise lines. Each ship carries a source and a year for its figures.

What Makes a Cruise Ship Luxurious

Luxury is a feeling, but it has a few measurable parts. We use four.

Space Ratio

Gross tons divided by guests. It shows how much ship there is around each person. The result is our calculation from each line’s published figures. It rewards small ships with big hulls, so we compare like with like.

Crew Ratio

Crew per guest, from the line’s published crew count. A line that publishes only a planned ratio, like Four Seasons’ one-to-one plan, is marked as such, because a plan is not a count.

All-Suite and All-Balcony

A ship where every cabin is a suite with a terrace sells the same room to everyone. Explora I lists all 461 of its cabins as suites with terraces, per the line’s brochure. Seven Seas Splendor lists 373 suites across 15 categories, per NCLH.

Age of Ship

Newer ships have the latest design, and older ships have a track record. Four Seasons I began sailing in March 2026, so it has the shortest record on this list.

The Silver Ray row repeats Silversea’s published figures for its sister ship. Explora’s tonnage is the approximate 64,000 gross tons Fincantieri gave for the four-ship class in 2021. The suite sizes are on different bases, because Four Seasons and Explora count terraces and Silversea and Regent list the suite alone. Seven Seas Prestige is the newest entry, and its figures are Regent’s announced specifications.

The Ships, One by One

Four Seasons I

Four Seasons I has 95 suites and up to 222 guests, with 207 meters of hull and 34,000 gross tons, per Four Seasons. The company plans a one-to-one staff-to-guest ratio. Cruise Passenger reported in December 2025 that a seven-day sailing started at $25,000 per cabin, about $3,571 per cabin per night by our calculation, while its headline cited $5,000 per night and the article did not explain the gap. The ship’s debut was a nine-night sailing from Malaga to Malta on March 20, 2026.

Luminara

Luminara is the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s third ship, delivered in 2025 with 374 crew and 46,750 gross tons, per Baird Maritime. Porthole lists 226 suites, each with a private terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows, and five restaurants and seven bars and lounges. Baird’s figures give 224 suites and 448 guests at most, so we use the lower guest count. The line has not published a suite size.

Silver Nova

Silver Nova entered service in 2023 with 728 guests, 544 crew and 54,700 gross tons, per Silversea. Its Superior Veranda Suite is 301 square feet. The page lists complimentary extras including the S.A.L.T. Bar cocktails and S.A.L.T. Lab cooking classes. Fares are quoted per sailing.

Silver Ray

Silver Ray, built in 2024, carries the same guest, crew and tonnage figures as Silver Nova on Silversea’s page. We list it for completeness rather than as a separate pick.

Seven Seas Splendor

Seven Seas Splendor entered service in 2020 with up to 746 guests, 548 crew and 55,498 gross tons, per NCLH. It has 373 suites across 15 categories, and the Veranda Suite is 307 square feet. The top of the range is the 4,443-square-foot Regent Suite on deck 14 with a 1,300-square-foot wraparound veranda, per NCLH. On the 2027 World Cruise, the entry fare is $91,499 per guest for 140 nights, about $654 a night. See most expensive cruise for the top fare and what it includes.

Seven Seas Prestige

Regent’s June 2025 announcement gives Seven Seas Prestige 77,000 gross tons and 822 guests, about 94 gross tons per guest by our calculation, with 12 suite categories and a first voyage from Barcelona on December 13, 2026. At the top is the Skyview Regent Suite, 8,794 sq ft including a 3,703 sq ft balcony, from $25,000 a night, per the same release. No crew count was published, so we compute no crew ratio.

Explora I

Explora I was delivered by Fincantieri on July 20, 2023, per Cruise Industry News. It has 461 suites, each with a terrace, 922 guests at double occupancy and 642 crew, per TTG Luxury in 2023. That is about 1.44 guests per crew member by our calculation. With roughly 64,000 gross tons, per Fincantieri in 2021, the space ratio is about 69. The entry Ocean Terrace Suite is 35 square meters (about 377 square feet) including a 7 square meter terrace.

Seabourn Encore

Seabourn Encore was delivered in late 2016 with 40,350 gross tons, 600 guests at double occupancy and 300 suites, each with a private veranda, per Luxury Travel Magazine in November 2016. That is about 67 gross tons per guest. Seabourn’s own ship page still gives 600 guests, a length of 690 feet and a beam of 92 feet (seabourn.com, November 2026). The same page gives no crew count, so we compute no crew ratio and rank Encore on space alone. What it offers instead is scale: the smallest guest count of the established lines in this table, with every suite on a veranda.

Most Luxurious Cruise Ships by Type

Yacht-Style Ships

Four Seasons I and Luminara are the yacht-style ships in the table, with 222 and 448 guests at most. They have the most space per guest, and they are the newest. Ask each line for the suite size and the fare for your dates.

Expedition Ships

Expedition ships are built for the poles and remote coasts, and they trade space ratio for ice strengthening. Scenic Eclipse II, a 228-guest ice-strengthened expedition ship per Baird Maritime, is the one we looked at. For polar itineraries, see our best Antarctica cruise guide.

Big-Ship Suites

The large mainstream lines sell suite zones inside very big ships, such as The Haven and Royal Suite Class. They sit outside the ranking above. The question to ask is whether the suite zone is a separate part of the ship or just a bigger cabin. For the suites themselves, see luxury cruise suites.

Arriving at the port in style is its own decision. See private jet charter and yacht charter cost for the alternatives, and cruises and yachts for the full section.
