Luxury glamping at its best means a tent with a king bed, an en-suite bathroom and a heat source, run like a hotel. Two camps in this guide hold MICHELIN’s top rating: Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge in British Columbia and Zannier Hotels Sonop in Namibia each hold three Keys, per their own sites in 2026. The Resort at Paws Up in Montana holds two (MICHELIN Guide, 2026).
This guide picks the luxury glamping camps worth the money, with the facts that decide a booking: tents or cabins, the season, the minimum stay and what the rate covers. Where a camp does not publish a rate, we say so rather than guess.
What Makes Glamping Luxury
The word “glamping” covers everything from a yurt in a field to a camp that employs a private chef. The luxury end is easier to define. MICHELIN’s glamping features describe the same ingredients again and again: a raised platform or hardwood floor, a real bed, a private bathroom, climate control or a stove, and staff on site (MICHELIN Guide, 2023 and 2025). Dunton River Camp in Colorado, for example, has eight freestanding tents, each with a private porch, a king bed, an en-suite bath with soaking tub and shower, and a gas stove (MICHELIN Guide, May 2025).
Three tests separate a luxury camp from a good campsite:
- A private bathroom. MICHELIN’s description of Under Canvas Acadia shows the split inside one camp: shared-bathhouse safari tents at the entry level, mid-range tents with en-suite baths above them, and a suite that sleeps four (MICHELIN Guide, 2023).
- Service. Paws Up describes its glamping tents as having a dedicated chef and a camp butler (pawsup.com, 2026).
- Inclusions. Paws Up states that stays include gourmet meals, airport transfers and on-property transportation, and that the resort is gratuity-free (pawsup.com, 2026). Few other camps here publish what the rate covers, so ask before you compare quotes.
How We Picked
We started with recognition from outside the industry: MICHELIN Keys, plus the properties MICHELIN’s editors chose for their glamping lists in May 2023 and May 2025. Then we opened each camp’s own page for the facts that matter. The MICHELIN glamping articles do not state Key counts or rates for most properties, so we give a Key count only where a hotel page or the camp’s own site states one.
We take no paid placement. A camp that is missing from this list is not necessarily worse; it may simply not carry independent recognition we could open and check.
The Best Luxury Glamping in the US
For the best glamping in the US, the pattern is clear: the strongest camps sit beside a national park or a working ranch, and most close for winter.
The Resort at Paws Up, Montana
Paws Up is the most complete luxury glamping stay in the US. The MICHELIN Guide gives it two Keys and 76 rooms, about 40 minutes from Missoula airport (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). In summer it offers camping at six sites with safari-style tents, which MICHELIN’s glamping feature describes as having hardwood floors, en-suite baths, air conditioning and heat (MICHELIN Guide, 2023).
Paws Up states a four-night minimum in the summer months and two nights in fall, winter and spring, except for special events and holidays (pawsup.com, 2026).
Under Canvas, Multiple Camps
Under Canvas is the largest name in the category and sits in the middle of the luxury range. Its site lists 18 camps and describes custom-designed canvas tents with optional en-suite bathrooms, king beds and wood-burning stoves (undercanvas.com, 2026).
The camp MICHELIN lists in detail is Under Canvas Acadia in Maine: 62 rooms on 100 acres of waterfront land, with units from two-person Stargazer tents to the Cadillac Mountain Suite, which sleeps up to seven. The camp is open from mid-May through late September (MICHELIN Guide, 2026).
Open Sky Zion, Utah
Open Sky Zion is a small camp of safari-style canvas tent suites on raised platforms, with private terraces, fire pits and king beds. MICHELIN lists 13 rooms and describes the camp as being in the remote western area of Zion National Park, with a restaurant on site and the park entrance about a 25-minute drive away (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). The Milky Way Camp has two bedrooms, which suits families.
Dunton River Camp, Colorado
Dunton River Camp near Dolores is the smallest camp here: eight tents, four by the river and four uphill among aspens, open in summer only (MICHELIN Guide, May 2025).
AutoCamp and Collective Retreats
These two sit at the accessible end of the range, with a design-led approach rather than a full-service one. AutoCamp lists nine locations, from Yosemite and Zion to Cape Cod and the Catskills (autocamp.com, 2026). MICHELIN describes AutoCamp Yosemite as offering luxury tents, cabins and custom Airstream trailers (MICHELIN Guide, 2025).
Collective Governors Island, in New York Harbor, offers tents and shelters and is open May through October (collectiveretreats.com, 2026). It is the one camp here that you can reach from Manhattan by ferry, which is why it suits a short stay.
Canada and Beyond
Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, British Columbia
Clayoquot is the strongest case for glamping as a true luxury hotel. The lodge describes itself as a permanent tented camp near Tofino, open in the warmer months from May to September, and says it is one of only a handful of properties awarded three MICHELIN Keys (Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, 2026). Tent counts, minimum stays and rates come from its reservations team.
Zannier Hotels Sonop, Namibia
Sonop has ten tented suites, including one- and two-bedroom options, on Sonop Farm at the edge of the NamibRand Nature Reserve in southern Namibia. Zannier Hotels lists three MICHELIN Keys for Sonop in the 2026 selection, the only Namibian property with that distinction, and Green Globe certification (zannierhotels.com, 2026). MICHELIN’s 2025 feature describes the tents as built on platforms above the desert floor, in the style of 1920s British colonial design.
Zannier advertises a combined Sonop and Omaanda offer of 10% off room rates for stays of at least three nights at Sonop and two at Omaanda within 14 days (zannierhotels.com, 2026).
Aman-i-Khás, India
At Aman-i-Khás in Ranthambhore, MICHELIN describes tents that are each heated and air-conditioned, with furnishings in a Mughal and British colonial style (MICHELIN Guide, 2025). It is a base for tiger safaris rather than a campsite stay, and a close cousin of the tented camps in our guide to luxury safari lodges, which covers the African camps in more depth.
Luxury Glamping in the UK and Europe
The UK and Europe are thin on independently recognised tent hotels. MICHELIN’s May 2025 glamping list, 15 properties in all, includes none in Europe, and the page hosted on its UK edition lists properties across Africa, the Americas and Asia (MICHELIN Guide, 2025). Its May 2023 list includes one European camp: Terme di Vulci Glamping & Spa near Viterbo, Italy, set on land with naturally occurring hot springs (MICHELIN Guide, 2023). The 2023 article does not describe its tents, state a Key count or give rates, so treat it as a lead to check directly rather than a recommendation.
If a camp in the UK is your goal, a hotel with a tented wing is a different product from the camps above. Compare it on the same tests: private bathroom, heat, service and what the rate includes.
What It Costs
None of these camps publishes a nightly rate on its main pages, and MICHELIN’s glamping lists carry no rates for any property. Paws Up’s MICHELIN page makes the point plainly: the resort is “not cheap, not by a long shot” (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). So the table below is not a price list: it records the stay rules and inclusions that change what you pay, which is what each camp does publish.
| Camp | Tents | Season | Stay rule, offer or inclusion | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Resort at Paws Up | Safari-style luxury tents | Summer camping; resort open year-round | 4-night minimum in summer, 2 nights otherwise; meals, transfers and gratuities included | pawsup.com, 2026 |
| Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge | Permanent tented camp | May to September | Rate on request from reservations | clayoquot.com, 2026 |
| Under Canvas Acadia | 62 rooms, Stargazer tents to a suite for seven | Mid-May to late September | Entry tents share a bathhouse; mid-range tents and the suite have en-suite baths | MICHELIN Guide, 2023 and 2026 |
| Zannier Hotels Sonop | 10 tented suites, one and two bedrooms | Dates on request | 10% off with 3 nights at Sonop plus 2 at Omaanda within 14 days | zannierhotels.com, 2026 |
| Dunton River Camp | 8 tents | Summer only | Each tent has an en-suite bath and gas stove | MICHELIN Guide, 2025 |
| Collective Governors Island | Tents and shelters | May to October | Ferry access from Manhattan | collectiveretreats.com, 2026 |
For a real figure, request a quote for your dates. Peak summer weeks at the national park camps fill first, and the four-night minimum at Paws Up shows how a camp can shape a booking around the season.

For a wider choice of places to stay, our guide to luxury vacation destinations compares trips by region. If the draw is the setting rather than the tent, luxury wellness retreats and luxury family vacations cover the same landscapes with more infrastructure.
Getting There Privately
Most of these camps are far from a major airport, which is where a private flight earns its cost. Paws Up is about 40 minutes from Missoula airport (MICHELIN Guide, 2026), and Open Sky Zion is roughly a 25-minute drive from the Zion park entrance (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). Camps in Namibia and India usually add a charter flight or a long road transfer, so ask the camp which airstrip it uses before you price the trip.
Mountain and remote airfields close for weather and limit aircraft size, so ask your charter provider about both when you request a quote.
