The best luxury hotels in Tokyo start with three names: Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo, Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi and Palace Hotel Tokyo. Each holds three MICHELIN Keys in the guide’s Japan selection announced September 18, 2026, and Forbes Travel Guide rates Bvlgari and Palace Hotel Tokyo Five-Star for 2026 (Four Seasons Otemachi sits at Four-Star). Palace Hotel Tokyo lists 266 rooms and 18 suites on its own site.

Hotels at this level rarely publish a from-rate on their pages, and booking sites disagree by hundreds of dollars for the same room, so this guide ranks on what can be checked: MICHELIN Keys, Forbes ratings, room counts and location. Price your dates on the hotel’s own booking page once you have a shortlist.

How We Picked

We used two outside judges and one practical filter. The first is the MICHELIN Guide Keys for Japan (September 2026). The second is the Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards 2026 list. The filter is neighborhood: Tokyo is large, and a hotel in Marunouchi and one in Shinjuku are different trips. We take no paid placement.

Recognition is not a rate. A hotel can hold three Keys and still be priced like a two-night splurge. Treat the awards as a quality filter, then check the rate for your own dates.

Room count is the other number worth reading. Aman Tokyo has 84 rooms and Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo has 98, while The Okura Tokyo has 508 (MICHELIN Guide hotel pages, 2026). Fewer rooms usually means a quieter lobby and a lift you do not share with a tour group.

Where to Stay in Tokyo for Luxury

Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yaesu

This is the business and imperial district, beside Tokyo Station. Aman Tokyo takes the upper floors of the Otemachi Tower at 1-5-6 Otemachi, and Four Seasons has two hotels here, at Otemachi and at Marunouchi. Palace Hotel Tokyo is at 1-1-1 Marunouchi, and Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo is at 2-2-1 Yaesu, in the Tokyo Midtown Yaesu tower beside the station (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). Haneda is about 20 km away and 15 to 40 minutes by road, per Universal Weather and Aviation (2026). Narita is about 65 km and 1 to 1.5 hours.

Nihonbashi, Yurakucho and Ginza

The shopping and dining core. The Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo is at 2-1-1 Nihombashimuromachi and The Peninsula Tokyo is at 1-8-1 Yurakucho (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). Choose this side if your Tokyo list is restaurants and shops.

Toranomon, Akasaka and Nagatacho

The newer business and government area. The Okura Tokyo is in Toranomon, The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo is at Tokyo Midtown in Akasaka, and The Capitol Hotel Tokyu is in Nagatacho. The Okura, The Ritz-Carlton and The Capitol Hotel Tokyu are all on the 2026 Forbes Five-Star list, per Forbes Travel Guide. Choose this side for the art museums, nightlife and a quieter base than the station district.

Shinjuku and Azabudai

Park Hyatt Tokyo is in Shinjuku and JANU Tokyo is in the Azabudai Hills development, near Tokyo Tower. They suit a stay built around the west side of the city or a design-led hotel rather than the palace and station district.

The Best Luxury Hotels in Tokyo

Awards below come from the MICHELIN Guide Japan Keys 2026 and the Forbes Travel Guide Star Awards 2026. Room counts are from the MICHELIN Guide hotel pages unless the entry names another source.

Aman Tokyo

Aman Tokyo has 84 rooms in the Otemachi Tower, per the MICHELIN Guide, which gives it Two Keys. Forbes Travel Guide rates it Four-Star for 2026. It is the quietest top-floor stay on this list, with a small room count and a business-district address beside Tokyo Station.

JANU Tokyo

JANU is Aman’s second brand, at 1-2-2 Azabudai in the Azabudai Hills development. It has 122 rooms and holds Two MICHELIN Keys (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). It does not appear in the Forbes Travel Guide 2026 award winners list. Choose it for a larger, more social hotel from the Aman group.

Bvlgari Hotel Tokyo

Three Keys from the MICHELIN Guide, and a Forbes Five-Star rating for 2026. It has 98 rooms and suites in the upper floors of the Tokyo Midtown Yaesu tower at 2-2-1 Yaesu, not in the Ginza Tower, per the MICHELIN Guide. The Bvlgari Suite is the one to ask about: the MICHELIN Guide describes it as about 400 square meters. Choose it for design and a Tokyo Station address.

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi

The MICHELIN Guide gave it Three Keys for the third year in a row on September 18, 2026, one of seven hotels in Japan at that level, per the hotel’s press page. Forbes rates it Four-Star for 2026. Four Seasons lists 190 rooms, made up of 170 guest rooms and 20 suites, on the top six floors of a 39-storey building (Four Seasons hotel facts, 2026). The hotel’s restaurant est holds a MICHELIN star.

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi

One MICHELIN Key and a Four-Star rating from Forbes Travel Guide for 2026. The MICHELIN Guide lists 57 rooms, overlooking the tracks of Tokyo Station. It is the smaller Four Seasons in the district and the better fit for rail enthusiasts and short stays.

Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo

One MICHELIN Key and Forbes Five-Star for 2026. The MICHELIN Guide lists 179 rooms at the Nihonbashi address, and notes that Mount Fuji can be seen on clear days from the 38th floor.

The Peninsula Tokyo

One MICHELIN Key and Forbes Five-Star for 2026. It has 314 rooms at 1-8-1 Yurakucho (MICHELIN Guide, 2026), making it the largest of the Five-Star hotels on this list outside The Okura.

Park Hyatt Tokyo

The Shinjuku hotel reopened on December 9, 2025 after a hiatus of about 19 months, per Time Out Tokyo. It now has 171 rooms, down from 177, with 29 specialty suites, up from 23. It is new to the MICHELIN list in 2026, with One Key. It does not appear in the Forbes Travel Guide 2026 award winners list.

The Okura Tokyo

One MICHELIN Key and Forbes Five-Star for 2026. The MICHELIN Guide lists 508 rooms at 2-10-4 Toranomon, split between a Heritage Wing and a high-rise tower, and says the Heritage Wing’s ryokan-style rooms are among the largest in Tokyo. Forbes lists a separate Four-Star entry for The Okura Heritage Wing Tokyo, so check which wing you are booking.

Palace Hotel Tokyo

Three MICHELIN Keys, held for a third consecutive year, per the hotel, and a Forbes Five-Star listing. The hotel also says Travel + Leisure voted it the best hotel in Tokyo in the 2026 World’s Best Awards, for a second year. It lists 266 rooms and 18 suites at 1-1-1 Marunouchi, per its own site, and publishes no rate on that page.

The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo

One MICHELIN Key and Forbes Five-Star for 2026. The MICHELIN Guide lists 245 rooms at 9-7-1 Akasaka, in the upper floors of the Midtown Tower. Its restaurant Heritage by Kei Kobayashi holds one MICHELIN star.

The Capitol Hotel Tokyu

Two MICHELIN Keys and 251 rooms at 2-10-3 Nagatacho (MICHELIN Guide, 2026). Tokyu Hotels says it holds the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating for 2026, its sixth straight year. It sits in the government district near the Diet, a calmer base than the station area.

Best Boutique Luxury Hotels in Tokyo

Tokyo’s recognized luxury is mostly large towers, but the MICHELIN Guide lists a few small hotels with a Key. Room counts below are from the MICHELIN Guide’s Tokyo hotel guide and from the hotel’s own release.

Takanawa Hanakohro

A Forbes Five-Star hotel for the sixth consecutive year in 2026, per Prince Hotels (February 12, 2026), with 16 rooms in a Japanese-inn style, per the Prince Hotels 2026 Forbes release.

K5

A One Key hotel in Nihonbashi with 20 rooms, per the MICHELIN Guide’s Tokyo hotel guide. Choose it for a design-led stay in an old merchant district.

The Aoyama Grand Hotel

A One Key hotel in Aoyama with 42 rooms, per the MICHELIN Guide’s Tokyo hotel guide. Aoyama puts you among the fashion boutiques and cafes rather than the business district.

Getting In: Haneda vs Narita, and Private Jets

Haneda is the closer airport. Universal Weather and Aviation puts it about 20 km from central Tokyo, 15 to 40 minutes by road, and Narita about 65 km away, 1 to 1.5 hours (2026). General aviation is available 24 hours at Haneda, while Narita is open from 0600 to 2259 local time, with a strict overnight curfew.

Both airports require slots for business aircraft. Universal says requested times are not guaranteed at Haneda and peak periods are tight, while Narita is usually less restrictive and same-day approvals are possible. Haneda has about 17 general aviation parking positions that are often full, and stays are typically capped at four nights. Neither airport has FBO-style facilities: aircraft park on general ramps and approved providers coordinate handling. Ground support equipment needs at least 24 hours of notice, and catering at least three days. Refueling with passengers on board is not permitted anywhere in Japan (Universal Weather and Aviation, 2026).
