The best business class airline in the world, by the Skytrax World Airline Awards, is Qatar Airways. It won World’s Best Business Class for the 13th time in 2026, according to Time Out’s coverage of the awards announced on September 18, 2026. Singapore Airlines took the overall World’s Best Airline title, with Qatar Airways second, Cathay Pacific third and ANA fourth.

This guide ranks ten airlines by seat and award record, then breaks the choice down by region. It ends with a comparison against first class and a private jet. Awards are named with their year. Seat details come from Aerocorner’s September 24, 2026 business class ranking, and we name it each time we use it. Check your own route and aircraft before you book, because the seat varies by plane.

How We Rank the Best Business Class Airlines

We rank on three things, in this order.

  • Seat. Direct aisle access, a door or privacy shell, and a bed that lies flat and is long enough to sleep on. A reverse herringbone or staggered layout beats a forward-facing seat that makes you climb over a neighbor.
  • Awards. Skytrax is the most cited award for airlines, and we name the year each time. It gives separate awards for business class, first class, lounges and the overall airline, so a high overall rank is not the same as the best business class.
  • Network from the US. An airline with a nonstop from your city beats a better airline with a connection. Check the airline’s own route map for your departure city.

The Best Business Class Airlines

The ranking below puts the Skytrax winner first, then the other airlines that appear in Aerocorner’s top 10 and the two US carriers most readers can fly without leaving the country.

Qatar Airways (Qsuite)

Qatar Airways won World’s Best Business Class at Skytrax in 2026, its 13th time, and the Qsuite is the seat behind that result. Aerocorner describes Qsuite as a suite with a door, where the center pairs can form a double bed and four seats can join as one quad suite. It is on the A350-1000 and select A350-900, 777-200LR and 777-300ER aircraft, while the 787-9 uses a different seat. Standout fact: Qsuite is the best known business class product with a door.

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines won World’s Best Airline in 2026 for the sixth time, per Time Out and Travel Noire. Aerocorner ranks it second for business class and praises the crew service, but says the seat, in service since 2013, is not cutting edge and that the first A350-900 refit is delayed to the first quarter of 2027. Standout fact: the airline wins on service more than on seat design.

Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific placed third overall in the 2026 Skytrax list and won World’s Best Cabin Crew and World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge, per Travel Noire. Its Aria Suite has a sliding door and is a modified Collins Aerospace Elements seat with Bluetooth audio and wireless charging, according to Aerocorner. Only retrofitted 777-300ERs have it so far, so check the aircraft.

ANA

ANA ranked fourth overall at Skytrax in 2026, per Time Out. Its seat, The Room, was introduced in 2019 and puts a door on select 777-300ER aircraft, according to Aerocorner, which says it offers far more personal space than a typical business seat. A modified version is coming to some 787s.

Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines ranked fifth overall at Skytrax in 2026, per Time Out, and seventh in Aerocorner’s business class list. Aerocorner reports a staggered layout on the 787 and seven seats per row on the 777. The Collins Horizon seat with a door is only on a subset of A350s that were originally built for Aeroflot, and the airline plans a new seat.

Emirates

Emirates ranked sixth overall at Skytrax in 2026, per Time Out. Aerocorner leaves it just outside its business class top 10: it credits the bar, drinks and entertainment but describes the A380 business seat as dated. Standout fact: the onboard bar is the draw, not the seat.

Air France

Air France ranked seventh overall at Skytrax in 2026, per Time Out. On the 777-300ER it uses the Safran Versa seat in a reverse herringbone layout with doors, and Aerocorner rates the front-row bulkhead seats highly. A similar product is on the A350-900 from a different manufacturer.

Delta One

Delta One is the premium cabin of Delta Air Lines. Its Delta One Suite has a door and is on the A350-900 and A330-900neo, according to Aerocorner, which notes that the door does not fully close and that window seats lack storage.

United Polaris

United Polaris is the business class of United Airlines. Aerocorner reports that United launched Polaris Studio on April 22, 2026, on the San Francisco to Singapore route. Polaris Studio has eight suites per 787-9, about 25% larger than regular Polaris, with doors and a 27-inch 4K OLED screen.

Others Worth Knowing

Aerocorner’s top 10 also includes Japan Airlines (Safran Unity seat, a launch customer on the A350-1000), STARLUX (Collins Elements in a reverse herringbone layout on A350s, each seat with a door and a 24-inch screen), EVA Air (reverse herringbone on the 777-300ER and staggered on the 787) and Hainan Airlines (1-2-1 reverse herringbone on the 787-9).

Skytrax 2026: The Overall Top 10

The overall airline ranking is a different award from business class, but it shows which carriers do well across the whole experience. According to Time Out, the 2026 top 10 was:

  1. Singapore Airlines
  2. Qatar Airways
  3. Cathay Pacific Airways
  4. ANA All Nippon Airways
  5. Turkish Airlines
  6. Emirates
  7. Air France
  8. Hainan Airlines
  9. Japan Airlines
  10. Korean Air

Aerocorner’s business class ranking, which is an editorial list and not a Skytrax result, orders the top 10 differently: Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, ANA, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, STARLUX, Turkish Airlines, EVA Air, Hainan Airlines and Air France. The two lists agree on the names at the top and differ on the order, which is a good reason to look at the seat on your route and not only at a rank.

Best Business Class From the US by Region

Europe

For Europe, a US airline with a nonstop to your city usually wins on convenience. Air France appears in both the Skytrax overall top 10 and Aerocorner’s business class list, and its 777-300ER seat has a door.

Asia

For Asia, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and ANA are named at the top of the 2026 Skytrax overall result. Choose by gateway: Singapore for Southeast Asia, Cathay for Hong Kong and China, ANA for Japan. Japan Airlines and STARLUX also appear in Aerocorner’s top 10.

Middle East and Beyond

Qatar Airways and Emirates connect the US to the Gulf and onward. Turkish Airlines reaches the same region through Istanbul. If your trip ends at a safari camp, see our guide to luxury safari lodges.

Paying Less

Business class does not have to cost a fortune if you are flexible on dates and airports. Our guide to cheap business class flights covers what to look for.

Business Class vs First vs a Private Jet

First class on a few airlines adds a bigger suite, a more personal meal service and a dedicated ground experience. Skytrax gives first class its own awards, and Cathay Pacific won World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge in 2026, per Travel Noire. Many airlines no longer sell a first class cabin, so check the cabins on your route before you plan around one.

A private jet is a different category. You choose the time, the airport and your fellow passengers, and the price is per aircraft, not per seat. Our private jet charter cost guide shows the numbers, and our semi-private flights guide covers the middle ground. If you prefer to see the scenery slowly, luxury train journeys are the other end of the scale. The wider travel hub covers more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which airline has the best business class in the world?
Qatar Airways, according to Skytrax. It won World's Best Business Class in 2026 for the 13th time, per Time Out. Awards are one measure, so check the aircraft on your route.
Which business class has the best seat?
The Qsuite from Qatar Airways is the seat most often named the best. It has a door, and the center pairs can form a double bed, per Aerocorner. Seat quality varies by aircraft, so confirm which one flies your route.
Is United Polaris good?
United Polaris is a solid US business class with direct aisle access. In 2026 United added Polaris Studio on select 787-9 aircraft, with larger suites and doors, per Aerocorner. It is not in the Skytrax top 10 overall, so compare it with foreign carriers on your route.
Is business class worth it on long-haul flights?
It is easiest to justify on overnight long-haul flights where sleep matters, because a flat bed and priority service reduce fatigue. On short daytime flights the premium is harder to justify. Compare the fare with premium economy before you decide.
What is the difference between business and first class?
First class is a step above business. It usually adds a larger private suite, a more personal meal service and a dedicated ground experience. Many airlines have dropped it, and suites with doors, such as Qatar's Qsuite, have narrowed the gap.
