The biggest yacht in the world is Azzam, a 180.61 m (592.6 ft) Lürssen-built motor yacht delivered in 2013, according to Boat International’s register of the largest yachts in 2026. Guinness World Records also lists Azzam as the largest privately owned yacht, at 180 m (590 ft). The next three are Eclipse (162.5 m), Dubai (162 m) and Blue (160.6 m).

This guide ranks the top 15 by length, then looks at the most expensive yachts in the world by reported cost, which is a different ordering. It also explains the terms (superyacht, mega yacht, gigayacht) and flags the one famous “most expensive yacht” that nobody has verified.

The Biggest Yachts in the World

Length is the cleanest way to rank yachts, because it is measured and published. Cost is not. The table below follows Boat International’s register of the largest yachts, opened in November 2026. Feet are converted from the metre figures. The register lists vessels by length overall, so it includes state-owned and historic ships alongside private yachts.

Two patterns stand out. Lürssen built nine of the 15 and six of the top ten, and the gap between first and second is about 18 m, while places two to four are separated by less than 2 m.

SuperYacht Times publishes its own largest-yachts list; the figures here follow Boat International alone so that every row uses one measure. Rankings differ between publications on edge cases such as ships that started life as naval or royal vessels.

The Top 10 Up Close

1. Azzam

Boat International’s directory lists Azzam at 180.61 m long with a 20.8 m beam, built by Lürssen, which is also credited as naval architect. It reaches a top speed of 33 knots and cruises at 12 knots, and Boat International says it is powered by two General Electric gas turbine engines (2026). A 2012 CNBC report on the build said industry executives believed the owner was a member of a Middle Eastern royal family, and described that as speculation. Boat International does not name an owner, and neither do we.

2 and 3. Eclipse and Dubai

Eclipse and Dubai are nearly the same length, 162.5 m and 162 m, and both hulls came from Blohm + Voss in Hamburg. Dubai was delivered in 2006 and Eclipse in 2010. Boat International’s register notes that Dubai’s interior was completed by Platinum Yachts, a reminder that the hull builder and the interior builder are often different yards.

4. Blue

Blue is the newest of the top five, a 160.6 m Lürssen delivered in 2022. It is also the longest of the recent builds, ahead of Opera (146.35 m, 2023) and Dragonfly (142.08 m, 2024), all from the same German yard.

5. Dilbar

Dilbar is 156 m and was delivered by Lürssen in 2016, per Boat International’s register. It is the fifth-longest yacht listed, about 4.6 m shorter than Blue.

6 to 10. Al Said, El Mahrousa, A+, Prince Abdulaziz and Opera

The middle of the table is where the register mixes eras. Al Said (155 m, Lürssen, 2008) and A+ (147.25 m, Lürssen, 2012) are modern builds. El Mahrousa, 150.57 m, was built by Samuda Brothers in 1865, and Prince Abdulaziz, 147 m, by Helsingor Vaerft in 1984, according to Boat International’s register in 2026. Opera, at 146.35 m, is a 2023 Lürssen and the newest ship in the top ten.

The Sailing Giants

Sailing yachts sit lower in the length table, but one is worth noting. Sailing Yacht A, 142.81 m and built by Nobiskrug, is in the top 15 overall, though Boat International describes it as a sail-assisted motor yacht rather than a pure sailing yacht (2026).

The largest true sailing yacht is Koru, built by Oceanco and delivered in April 2023. Boat International’s directory lists her at 125.82 m, while its headline figure is 127 m, and its ranking of the largest sailing yachts puts her first, ahead of Black Pearl (106.7 m, Oceanco, 2018) and Eos (92.93 m, Lürssen, 2006). To answer a common question, Boat International describes Koru as owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (2026). Boat International does not report a build cost for her.

The Most Expensive Yachts in the World

Cost ranks differently from length, and the numbers here are weaker. Builders and owners rarely publish prices, so every figure below is a press estimate, a court valuation, or a claim. Read them as ranges, and note that a build cost and a later valuation are not the same measure.

Eclipse

Estimates for Eclipse are wide: Marine Insight’s January 2024 article cites figures from about $590 million to $1.2 billion. That spread is typical. Without a builder statement, treat any single number as an estimate.

Azzam

CNBC reported in July 2012 that Azzam was expected to cost more than $500 million. That was a pre-delivery expectation from industry sources, not a final invoice.

Amadea

Amadea is the cleanest case because a government published the action. The US Department of Justice announced on May 5, 2022, according to NBC News, that Fijian authorities had seized the 348 ft Amadea at the US request, after the US District Court for the District of Columbia found it subject to forfeiture on probable cause of sanctions violations. The Justice Department valued the yacht at $300 million and described it as allegedly owned by sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov. Lawyers for the company listed as owner deny that Kerimov has any connection to it (NBC News, May 2022).

History Supreme: Unverified

History Supreme is often named as the most expensive yacht ever. Superyacht Content examined the claim in September 2024 and found no concrete evidence that the yacht exists, calling it “more of a mythical creation than a real-world yacht.” The article names British designer Stuart Hughes as the person who claims to have built it with precious metals, and Malaysian businessman Robert Kuok only as a rumored owner, with no statement from him. We do not rank it, and we do not repeat the headline price attached to it.

Superyacht, Megayacht, Gigayacht: The Terms

These words describe size. They are not legal classes. YachtBuyer, in a guide updated in February 2026, sets out the common thresholds:

  • Superyacht: 24 m (79 ft) and above. The 24 m mark is where professional crewing and international regulations begin to apply, per YachtBuyer.
  • Mega yacht: 60 m (197 ft) and above, typically 60 to 100 m. YachtBuyer notes that some in the industry argue the label should start at 80 m.
  • Gigayacht: 100 m (328 ft) and above.

Every yacht in the table above is a gigayacht under that scheme, and every gigayacht is also a megayacht and a superyacht. Other publishers draw the lines differently, particularly in the United States, so check which scale a headline is using before comparing counts. The Biggest Yachts Under Construction

REV Ocean is the long one. Boat International’s directory lists her at 194.9 m, built by Vard as hull number 884, with a range of 21,120 nm, 36 guests in 18 staterooms and 54 crew, and gives delivery as 2027 (2026). Boat International reported in December 2024 that work paused in 2021 and resumed in 2023, and that she was the largest yacht under construction, positioned as a scientific research platform. If delivered as listed, she would pass Azzam by about 14 m. Other outlets have quoted earlier delivery windows, so treat the date as moving.

The same December 2024 article listed the next tier: Project Deep Blue (134.2 m, Lürssen), a 130 m yacht called Project Vela built in Croatia, and Lürssen’s 13798 at 120 to 130 m. Those delivery dates were from late 2024 and may have shifted, so check the builder before relying on them.
