Getting in and out of San Diego
There are five airports in and around the city for the convenience of your private jet charter in San Diego.
- San Diego International Airport (SAN, KSAN): This is located about three miles northwest of the business district of San Diego. It is also called the Lindbergh Field and has one fixed base operator or FBO: Landmark Aviation Services.
FBOs are organizations that work with the airport to access services like fueling, parking, maintenance and inspection of the aircraft.
- Montgomery Field (MYF, KMYF): Your second option is the MYF which is about six miles north of the business district. It has three FBOs: Crown Air Aviation, Gibbs Flying Service, Inc. and National Air College.
It is a small airport and is mostly used for general aviation.
- McClellan-Palomar Airport (CRQ, KCRQ): The third airport to service the private jet charter in San Diego is three miles southeast of Carlsbad, California.
The airport is about 34 miles north of downtown San Diego and has many FBOs: Premier Jet, Western Flight Services, Jet Source, Magellan Aviation, True North Fuel. There’s also one for helicopters called Civic Helicopters.
- Gillespie Field (SEE): The fourth option while using the private jet charter in San Diego is 10 miles northeast of San Diego.
It is located in El Cajon in sunny California and has three FBOs: Jet Air, Golden St. Aviation and High Performance Aircraft.
Fun fact: It was founded by the US marine core during World War II.
- Brown Field Municipal Airport (SDM, KSDM): The last one on the list is SDM, which is located 13 miles southeast of downtown San Diego. This one, in fact, is a port of entry into the United States for those coming from Mexico.
It has one FBO: San Diego Jet Center.
What to Do While in “America’s Finest City”
If you’re flying in for a weekend, here’s some free advice. Push your other commitments to the next week, reschedule those meetings and soak in some of that Californian sun.
The beaches are a dream and the weather is amazing. And here’s a quick tourist guide to help you navigate the city.
- Balboa Park: This 1,400-acre space is often described as a wonderland for tourists. And it’s true too. It has beautiful old buildings, museums and gardens—lots of greenery for nature lovers. It was created for an exhibition in the mid-1910s and a lot of it has been preserved. The architecture is Spanish and blends in beautifully with the low-rise buildings in the space.
You can also check out the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Man. We won’t tell you what it is. You’ll have to visit and find out.
The zoo is one of the top attractions, being one of the largest in the country. It is perfect if you’re flying in with your kids.
- Gaslamp Quarter: This is the heart of all the nightlife in the city. It was restored in the late 19th century. So it has a ton of Victorian buildings for the shutterbug in you to capture. There’s lot of entertainment options, shops and art galleries to check out. The restaurants here serve every cuisine imaginable. At night, hit a jazz club or a comedy center. The choice is yours.
- Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum: If you choose to take a walk along the San Diego waterfront, this is the place to stop at. It is home to one of the largest US military ships, now permanently stationed at the Navy Pier.
